Fae freak. Killer. Abomination.
I’ve been accused of terrible crimes.
And I’m far from innocent.

My uncontrollable powers earned me a cell in Wayward Fae Penitentiary where the inmates have it out for me and the guards turn a blind eye to every bit of violence. I’m here for one reason only, and that’s to assassinate the ruthless unseelie prince.

Viktor claims he’s going to break me, make me wish I never set foot in his prison. If that were true, why does he keep saving me from the dangerous alpha shifter salivating for my blood?

WFP is not your average lockup. The prince has more authority than the warden, creatures roam the halls at night, and a war between unseelies and shifters is brewing.

When I’m viciously attacked, Viktor brings me back from the brink of death, but no one could have foreseen the consequences. How could I go through with my mission now?

If I kill him, I’ll become the monster everyone thinks I am.

If I don’t, innocent blood will spill.

Fans of Holly Black and Cassandra Clare will devour this dark fantasy featuring a kickass heroine, enemies to lovers, treacherous Fae, and shmexy bad boys.♥

Oh my words. I absolutely LOVED this book and I need more like right now!

Don't stress...it doesn't leave you on a terrible cliffhanger but the need for more information and more story and well everything is dang intense. Like, I could barely focus on starting a new book because of how much I need this next book in the series....and with the first one not really released yet (only paperback is available just now). You can see my dilemma. I don't even know the next books name or when it'll even release.

I have to be honest...I was not prepared for just how much this book would snatch me into its world. But oh man how it did. I never wanted to put it down. Bully romances aren't always my thing, so I was trying to prepare myself for that side of it, but it actually just worked. It was a fairly darkish style read. So, I do feel the need to warn you of that. Sloane has lived an extremely hard life (abusive foster homes etc) and so this book could have triggers, for some. If you want to know more about that just shoot me a message.

I love how this story was constructed though. It was truly incredible watching this world unravel and although I had strong suspicions about a lot of things...I did love that some things came as a surprise and I was all like

Jot that down in my minds journal for future need lol. To piece that puzzle together.

The characters were amazingly written and you instantly just connect. Sloane, I couldn't help but love. Her fiery character and determination to not stand down, just really touched me. I can't wait to see her growth in the following books. Like I said before, she's been through a lot but even with that, there's this light inside of her even if she doesn't see it. But others can...the right people that is. Her loyalty to the ones she loves is incredible...and I know the story is only going to get more complicated from here on out...for reasons lol.

Okay, I should probably talk a little about the plot, otherwise, you just gonna be lost haha. So basically, Sloane has been in the foster system in and out of bad homes...she was ready to leave it all behind and run away, but this young girl, Jilly, became a little sister to her...and well she couldn't let her get lost in the foster system...to let her beautiful innocence be lost. So she stayed and took care of her, whilst paying the price of staying. But she would do anything for her. But something happens and well, something inside Sloane snaps...and before she knows it, the house is burning down and she somehow poofed out of that house and was alive....but two humans died.

Before anything gets too out of hand, these officers of sorts take Sloane away...and she learns that there's a whole new world out there...and that she is a Fae. A very rare one at that. Because of her acts, regardless of whether she knew what she was doing, she is sentenced to Wayward Penitentiary...but she's sent there with a mission from a very important person...the fae Queen, to kill someone else...The Prince. And her sisters' life depends on it.

I honestly don't want to say too much more...but Sloane has to learn how to navigate this new world of magic and all the magical creatures in it...And it's not an easy path ahead of her. Being what she is...half of two kinds makes her a sort of fae mutt (as they say). But Sloane has known hardship and with already being broken, what more can they do to her that she hasn't already survived?

“Your time at Wayward Fae Penitentiary is going to break you.” A bitter laugh slipped out. “I’m already broken. You missed your chance a long time ago, Viktor Hale.”

With her mind on trying to get close to the Prince, she learns a lot about this world...and it seems to be balancing quite precariously. It's a world of power struggles.... and the one person that needs her...and her him...is the one she is meant to kill.

Gah nope...I'm not saying anymore on the plot...man...I just want to keep talking but I won't...not in that department. Magical unicorn and all at work.

All I'm going to say is the prince, Viktor, is definitely not what you'll expect. He's a man of many layers. And I can't believe I'm going to say this, but he's giving me those Daemon vibes (you know my first serious book boyfriend?!). Like you want to hate him because let's face it he's a jerk-face-potato-head but from the beginning, you just know there's more to the story and under that surface. And we just barely scratched it. It was exactly like it was with Daemon...but that aside...I just wish I could get inside the guys head....Jena can I pwwweeettty please have a book with all his thoughts and just everything?! I need to know everything lol! Do puppy dog eyes work on you? Worth a try haha.

The chemistry between those two is strong and intense...he's definitely fighting it, they both are and I enjoy that build-up. Is that weird lol? Whatever...but as time passes you can see a slight shift...and you see that this man is intrigued and almost in awe of that fire inside her....okay, that's it. Time to bring out the duct tape. The urge is so strong with this book. I'm not even kidding.

We'll see how that works 😂

So much happens within this story...it's just so captivating and I think Jena pulled a HP on me and sucked me into a book or maybe even teleported me. Either work, because both are magical...and that's what this world is. I can't wait to see where this story will lead...the options are endless. Change is coming to this world...and I have a feeling the Prince and Sloane are going to be at the front of it all.

Be prepared for an epic book-hangover that'll leave you only desperate for more. This is one of my favourites of Jena's...and the world created is just incredible. So much thought and detail were put into it, in my opinion...and I kinda felt like my inner two year old wanted to come out begging for and needing all the answers.

Suppose I'll just have to be a weirdo and stand out in the middle of nowhere as I wait. Internally that's my brain. Don't you all have little sections in your brain for all the books that mess with your head? No just me....well, okay then.

Anyways, you guys should seriously give this book a try. If you love intensity, fight and fire...a world where nothing is easy or goes as planned. This book is for you. Just pick it up and read it.

Thanks so much, Jena, for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC of this book, in place of an honest review...as always, my reviews ahem rambles are my honest thoughts...the only time I lead you astray is with possibly making you buy more books haha. Buuuuut well, we are booklovers so that's really not that hard to do.

Jena has done an exceptional job here and I can't wait to dive back into this world. If this book doesn't make you feel something...or reach into your soul, I'm not sure what book will do that...this had my emotions all over the place....and in parts, it honestly did hurt my heart so much.

I never realised until now, that I definitely have a very impatient streak when it comes to books lol... and well we know about the holding in information part too lol.

I kinda feel like the equivalent of the Cookie Monster right now, while he's waiting desperately for his new cookies to cook. Sigh...#BookNerdProblems

Okay, I'm gonna stop rambling now...just make sure you check this incredible story out. You can find it Read, Ramble, Repeat.

Normally I love this author's works, but this book was such a big miss for me. I expected the heroine to be strong, but she was constantly losing or having to be saved, or just having betraying body syndrome, no matter how many times the hero treated her like crap, and I was SO over it. And I also got really annoyed of the ow crap. He had kissed the heroine's main tormentor once apparently (who know what else he has done with anyone else seeing as he made it clear he is not currently celibate🙄) and all the drama over it took away from the seriousness of the plot, and it made me more annoyed than interested in the book. I also didn't realize this was bully either, which I'm not a fan of, and i have a really hard time liking the hero right now, or liking the heroine for liking him. She needs to become strong on her own and if she doesn't have any growth in the next book, I'll probably be done after that.

Safety:

Hero is kissed by ow, not sure if he has done anything in the past with her, and it looked like he was kissing her back. Heroine kisses om because of it.

A lot of ow drama- no details on what he's done with who, except one of the girls he clarified he only kissed once.

Slight om drama- and little details of past abuse

No virgins (I think? Slight details of heroines past)

No cheating? Theyre not really together as the hero keeps pushing and pulling so who knows what he does in his spare time 🙄

I am not a fan of bully romances (bullying is not sexy) but I am a fan of JN Colon so I gave this a shot and boy am I glad I did. While some of the interactions between Sloane and Viktor are a little dark they perfectly fit the tone of the story and their characters. And Sloane just has no quit in her. She is so tough, and broken and I loved her. And there is definitely more to Viktor as we get to see. I love the developing relationship between them - especially how it started as self-interest on both parts but you know it has developed into something more.

Can't wait to see what happens next - though I am really hoping Sloane and Viktor team up soon with no secrets between them and he doesn't hold her bargain against her. They will be unstoppable together.

I recieved an ARC of this book for my honest review and this is it

To be honest the premise is an amazing concept. Supernatural Prison, think of all the hijinks that could happen.

Thought? Feelings?

The blurb felt misleading to me at first. I expected badass assassin and I got clueless teenager, then clueless assassin. I hate when books set up characters as badasses and then don't deliver. If you have this amazing power please learn to use it quickly and then kick ass. Is it too much to ask for a little murder and mayhem .
Anyway, It felt more like a teenage high school movie. We had the mean girls, the jock, the stoners, the slut and a lot of girl hate. I just could not enjoy this book.

Ice never felt so hot!!! I truly don't believe that J.N. Colon could not write something I don't love. From beginning to end Sloane's life pulls you in. She loves her sister with all that she has but how far will she go to protect her and just how much will it cost. She gets thrust into a world that she never knew she was apart of, and in this world it seems she is just as unwanted as when she was with the humans. While trying to get close to Viktor things keep not adding up and she can't help but feel some attraction to the bad boy. I can't wait to see how the story continues in the books to come.

This is book one of the Wayward Fae Paranormal Prison series and the main character is seventeen year old Sloane, who as the story starts is living in a foster home with her sister, Jilly who is only seven. Illy is not her blood sister, but from when she came to the same home as her at age four, she promised to protect her from the sort of foster parents who liked to abuse young girls! When she wakes and finds Jilly missing from her bed, she soon finds her in the basement with the foster dad Frank, and it isn’t for anything nice, as you will easily figure out for yourself, without me spelling it out. Sloane gets worked up and after Frank hits her, almost knocking her out, she has to fight back to stay awake and ensure Jilly gets away safely. As she does so, a fire starts on the table, an occurrence that happened at her last placement, when she was in position of danger! As the basement roof starts to collapse, she thinks she is going to die, but suddenly finds herself outside and across the street somehow. Cries of demon and witch follow her.

That is until a man and a woman approach and tell the police that Sloane is one of theirs. What that means, she has no idea. When she wakes, she is in an interrogation room which has a sign saying ‘Fae Investigation and Corrections’. On the journey there, she overheard the two mentioning that someone had been looking for someone like her for a long time! This room is where she finally learns that she is Fae herself and that it is very real. An unexpected visitor turns out to be Queen Isadora, of the Unseelie Court, who has been looking for someone to gain entry to Wayward Fae Penitentiary, to kill her brother! She blames him for the deaths of her parents when he was an out of control child and says he will be a danger if he is released, as he would kill the queen and then take the throne himself. Her power over the fire element is apparently quite rare and her magic has no trace to it after about an hour, so she could use it to kill the young prince with no trace!

The queen already knows of Sloane’s weak point, young Jilly, and uses her to persuade her to take on the job of assassinating the prince, in return for a good home for Jilly. She has no knowledge of Fae or any of their ways and has simply been told she is being put in with the Dark Fae, as the prison accommodation is split between dark and light. Her new cellmate is Kimber, who is a succubus, so Sloane is going to get a short, sharp introduction into all things Fae and will have to attend school in prison, as she is still underage. Now all Sloane needs, is for someone to point out the Unseelie prince, Viktor Hale, to her. She soon learns that she is an odd type of fae called a seelie-dae, a mix of seelie and daemon, but with a powerful elemental power, unlike the norm which would be light and dark cancelling each other out. She is both. And has been placed with the dark fae by the queen! Me thinks the queen has done her over royally!

She has a lot to learn and it seems nobody likes her, due to what she is. She quickly faces off against Faolan, the shifter alpha, a dochar, a mixture of panther and dragon. Then also against the Unseelie prince himself. But none of their threats really hit home with her, as she has already been broken by others, during her time in foster care, and nothing can touch her. She has already gone through hell and been damaged throughout, nothing can make it any worse, other than Jilly be placed in that sort of danger. It seems she is making her job more difficult for herself, by making an enemy of the very person she is supposed to have been getting close to, so she could kill him. The prince runs the inside of the dark fae area of the prison, and a male called Tristan is head of the light side and has come to help her out a couple of times. Some sort of alliance has been growing between the daemons and the shifters, so the balance of power looks to be shifting.

Sloane ends up getting saved from near death, more than once, by the prince, as other factions in the prison want to see her destroyed. This just brings her closer and closer to Viktor and when she hears the truth from him about his parent’s death and the reason he can do nothing about Queen Isadora’s claims, it makes her own reasons just as difficult to stick to. Both are in impossible positions, all because of Isadora and her evil plans. Viktor can’t kill Faolan, no matter how much of a danger he is to Sloane or himself, due to how powerful his father is, so life in the supernatural prison is a game of chance and mostly luck, as to whether she will survive in a place where everybody hates what she is, something she only learnt about herself, just a few weeks ago! Cracking action nearly all the way through, as dark and light, daemons and shifters, plus lots of other supernatural beings vie for power in the prison system and look to make a profit. Lives are on the line, it’s just difficult for some to carry out the orders of others, with a huge weight on their very souls. I really enjoyed reading this book and I can’t wait to see what will happen next! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Crimes of Fire is the first book in J.N. Colon’s new series and this book will grab you from the beginning and pull you in before you know it. Crimes of Fire is the first book in her Wayward Fae Paranormal Prison series and this book is more of an upper YA for older readers 17+. There are some steamy scenes but nothing too overboard for now.
Crimes of Fire gives readers an interesting main character by the name of Sloane. She’s bounced from one foster family to another, and has a plan to run away from one particular family until she meets precious little Jillian. She makes a promise to protect the little girl at all costs, and that day comes when she wakes up in the middle of the night to find the little girl missing from her bed. While Sloane is able to save her from harm this time, Sloane finds herself in trouble for something that she never knew about herself. She’s a fae, and not having ever known as taken two lives. She’s discovered because of her gifts and is arrested, then sent to prison with specific order hanging over her…kill the dark prince and her sister lives a good life, or fail and she never leaves prison again and Jillian gets bounced from foster home to foster home with no protector.
In the beginning when I started reading this book, I thought that Sloane wouldn’t end up being one of those characters. I thought that she’d be more of the silent cautious type who knew when to hold her tongue since she didn’t go to great lengths to antagonize her foster father to the extreme. It seems that once she gets in prison and face-to-face with danger all around that she just runs her mouth all the time. There’s the usual internal dialogue/monologue that she should stop talking/antagonizing, but yet it continues. It’s a bit predictable, but it’s really not all that bad. This book reads like an “enemies to lovers” storyline. Viktor is the target, and his anger towards her seems out of left-field, but once all the pieces come together it really makes sense why both sides want her.
I like the variety of characters that we get with this book. We get a nice variety of paranormals, and there is a power play at work as well. There are some other subtle aspects that are underlying as well that really help to fuel the story forward and keep it being a real page-turner. This book is an easy story to get into and read. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but nothing extreme. It just leads readers to be curious as to what is going to happen next with everything that transpires in this book.
I’m choosing to rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m a bit disappointed that Sloane isn’t a bit different from the rest by not having the usual predictable “smart mouth and attitude” but I like her fierceness and that she has some good friends who stand with her. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series and looking forward to seeing how she handles this impossible task that she must take on.

This may be my new favorite series by J.N. Colon. I was completely sucked into Sloane’s world right from the beginning. And let me just say, it’s not an easy one. Sloane’s world is violent and dark, and she’s suffered a lot at the hands of various foster families, leaving her feeling alone and destitute. Her only brightness in an otherwise unforgiving world is her younger foster sister. She would do anything to keep Jilly from suffering the same fate she had. But then things get out of hand, and things are happening too fast, things she wasn’t even aware she could do, and she ends up in Fae custody where she’s given an ultimatum. She can assassinate the unseelie Prince who’s currently locked up in the Fae prison she’s being sent to, an act that will ensure her foster sister safety. Or she can not, and leave Jilly alone to suffer at the hands of a broken system.

Her life in prison is no different than the life she’s left on the outside, full of violence, bullies, and abuse. And even though the prince is just as bad as the rest of the inmates—if not worse, things aren’t always what they seem. And soon Sloane will have a choice to make.

To me this book was just as much an enemies-to-lovers/bully romance (there is a lot of bullying and abuse, and a lot of bad things happen or nearly happen, things that just imagining it hurt my heart and gutted my insides. But it’s also not quite that straightforward when it comes to a certain character. While he does instigate some of the bullying, it comes from a place of ignorance and assumption. And you know what they say when you assume things… And while it’s not an excuse for his behavior, there are reasons that explain why he does what he does. Most things are never black and white.) as it was a coming-of-age story—in the sense that Sloane is just figuring out who she is, her powers, and where she fits into the world.

After all the revelations in this book, I look forward to seeing where it goes and how it will affect the characters.

For Sloane, life as a human was not very kind, being abused in the foster care and taking punishments also to protect her sweet little foster sister. And then, brought to her edge, she snapped, and the world turned upside down. The day she learned she has magic, Sloane was also thrown into Fae prison, with a task from queen Isadora she did not want to accept. And the longer she spent in the Wayward Fae Penitentiary, the less she was motivated to follow the orders. However the decision must be made: to kill an innocent man, or damn her little sister?
The story was a fast-paced, easy-to-read bully paranormal YA, with all the typical elements of a bully romance (that may feel like too much cliche for some readers, for me it was okay) and teenage high school drama. I have to say that based on the blurb I have expected something different, especially with Sloane - the teaser made her into a badass heroine, yet her strength was more on the inside, mental. The physical side was lacking, she came through as all words and no actions to follow through, as every time (except for the fighting ring, interestingly) she got into trouble, either Tristan or Viktor have to step up and save her. Also until the end she did not get a full grip on her abilities, or started to think like an adult in certain ways, which with her past would be more realistic. Nevertheless, I found her character interesting and with potential, and believe she will progress more in the next book, shaping her personality and behavior into a real kickass FMC. Aside from this, I enjoyed the book a lot, liked the conflict in Viktor, the magical side of the world building, and the blossoming romance between the main characters. I will definitely read the second book to find out more.

Brilliant. Crimes of Fire by J.N Colon was a great read. I definitely want to continue with the series. It had some twists and edge of your seat moments.
Sloane doesn't know she is fae until she accidentally kills her abusive foster parents using a dormant power she doesn't know she has to protect her little sister Jilly. When she gets arrested she ends up in the hands of the fae queen who offers her a deal: kill her brother, who killed their parents and her sister Jilly would have a loving home for the rest of her childhood. Sloane couldn't let her sister go back in the foster system with all the abusive and violent carers so she took the queen's deal.
Sloane goes to the Fae prison where Viktor, the queens brother, is serving time for killing his parents, the last king and queen of farie.
However all is not as it seems and even prison has its prince's and power struggles.
I wasn't keen on the first 25% of the book. There was too much of a highschool theme with bitchiness and childish pranks being played on Sloane to try to intimidate and break her. Little did they know that her childhood growing up in the system with abusive foster carers had already done that. She kept reminding herself she was doing it so Jilly could have a better life and focussed on trying to get close to Viktor.
The story definitely got better as Sloane became valuable to Viktor and she started to get feelings for him. I am interested in finding out how she plans on killing him or if there is somehow a loophole to keep Jilly safe without killing him!

It is the beautiful cover that made me want to discover this title. The summary confirmed my choice.

The universe is very interesting with a mix of fae, shifters, elves and daemons. Something to delight paranormal and fantasy fans.

The characters are mostly pleasant, some irritating: we need to have some to hate. I immediately loved Sloane and then Vik. Each of their confrontations is delightful, it blows hot and cold.

The story leads us to make discoveries about the world that Sloane discovered as well as about different characters.

If my reading had to be described in one word: wow! I hung from start to finish. There is action, almost no downtime and no risk of getting bored. It's an addictive reading and I fell in love with the characters and the author's pen.

I will of course read the next book. December seems far away to me, but it's always better than waiting a year or two, as it's the case for some series published in France.

I didn't know J.N. Colon but I'm going to take a closer look at her other titles.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book will keep you up all night because there isn’t a place where you can safely take a break! It’s an adrenaline high for sure and certainly one that will have you pacing the floor waiting impatiently for the next book to come out to get back to the love/hate relationship between Sloane and Victor!

I definitely recommend this book to young adult and adult readers for it holds your attention and your heart rate spikes as the action heats up! It’s one I’m sure you’ll recommend to your friends to read because it is well written and the characters are ones you will want to revisit when the next book in the series comes out! Those you love to hate-well you have to express your distaste and disgust at what is currently occupying the cities right now. Feel free to replace the names with real people if it makes you feel better-it did me!

This was the first book I have read by J.N. Colon but I can assure you it won’t be the last! She is on my radar now so I will be getting to know her other books while waiting for this story to be continued!

Give her a read- you’ll be glad you did I can guarantee it!!

Broken & Abused She HAS To Protect Her Little Sister!😔💔💪💥
A Rock & A Hard Place.😡😭💥
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Crimes of Fire (Wayward Fae Paranormal Prison #1)

This was a decent enough read. Sloane is a Fae raised as human in the foster system. She's been abused consistently, then she meets her new little sister, Jilly, & swears she'll stay to protect her from the horrors she's faced!🙏 Unfortunately saving her sparks her Fae powers & sets their current house on fire.🙈 This is when she finds out she's not human but Far and is sent to Fae Prison. The Queen visits & asks her to kill someone. She'll keep her sister protected, happy & well looked after. She feels helpless to refuse.😢 Of course things aren't so simple once she's inside!😳

I liked the fight Sloane displayed throughout. I did get a bit annoyed with his quickly she bent to Viktor's desires & demands, but are they mates perhaps?? She faces some real dilemmas in this book which will grow in book #2 I'm sure! Most of the Fae we've met so far are vile!😡 They're interesting characters though. I like a few including Viktor, most of the time.😉

Ok so I love all of J N Colon's books. A few series more than others. And now this is going to be on my 'more' list. Dangit. I didn't want to like him. I didn't want her to like him. I wouldn't want any teen to be in an abusive relationship and that's what I thought this was. Ok even if they aren't real. lol
But darn it. I ended up liking him. I like the excitement and I hate that I now have to wait for the next one to come out. I was worried this one started out too depressing....abused teens are too sad to read about. But thankfully that wasn't the primary focus on the story and I'm sure she'll make it all work out eventually. I honestly keep falling in love with these stories even when I say 'paranormal' or 'fantasy' isn't my genre. Well some authors just surprise me. And I do like a great smart alec. I wish it was just one big long book. I'd still be reading. I read this on one long drive (yes my husband was driving, not me). 6 hours straight. Ok with some in the night between.
Enjoy

I have to say this is by far the coolest crime/prison related book I have ever read. I loved the characters, even the evil rat bastards. I loved to hate them and you know someone is a good villain when you want to jump into the book and kick someone's ass. The characters, especially Sloane, were fleshed out and amazingly intricate. The author really captured someone with such a difficult history and backstory. the balance of fear and attitude. The fine line between feeling in control and like the world around you is shattering. I was rooting for her from the very beginning. And I related to her being willing to dirty herself to keep Jilly innocent and safe. Sloane is shades of grey. She isn't evil but she will do evil to keep innocence safe. I completely agree. The complications and hierarchy in the prison were interesting as well. I cannot wait to read the next installment.

Our heroine does not have an easy time and gets sent to a paranormal prison for killing a human. You would think that would be the end of schemes, but it is only the beginning.

This is a paranormal story with a supernatural prison setting, which is something of a common theme these days. Fortunately, this one manages to stand out in spite of that. The story is well written and easy to read, although it does get rather intense now and then. Both the settings and the characters are well done, with some nice development to flesh out the story. The plot is rather complex, with lots of behind the scenes dealing going on which keeps you guessing where things are going next. Throughout all this, though, our heroine remains true to herself, which is awesome. Overall, this was an excellent read and I definitely am looking forward to the next book.

Highly recommended.

Once again J.N. Colon has pulled out all the stops with this book. I had a hard time putting it down and then growled when it came to an end until the next book. The characters are in your face scary and I feel for Sloane after what her life has already been like before winding up in W.F.P. Is it any wonder why she is so confused by Viktor? She isn't suppose to become emotional and never has before meeting him, but he keeps turning the tables on her and keeping her off balance. He is suppose to be the prey here, but she is and she isn't....go figure that one out.

This is a real keeper and I can't wait for the next book in the series to make it to my kindle. You won't want to miss a minute of this. I loved to say more but with every turn I'd be posting a spoiler and I hate ruining the story for others. Get the book .... and happy reading.

Pet peeve: Bully romance. 2 stars

—————Spoilers Below—————

I knew this is a bully romance but was willing to try & get passed it bc of the good reviews. If only that was the only aspect I disliked 🤦🏻‍♀️ but no I disliked a good deal about this book but I’ll limit it to the most annoying.

1- With Sloan’s background I’d think she’ be smarter than she is. The FMC has nothing but the blackmailing evil Queen’s word her sister is safe. She’s not even savvy enough to ask for prof of life or to ask what happened to the assassin who killed Victor’s parents. Why can’t she use the same assassin to kill her half brother? That should clue the FMC in on her word being worth crap.

2- Sloan playing the damsel in distress the entire book & her dependence of Victor became tiresome. Even when her magic dampening bracelet was off Victor still had to save her. 🙄

I’ll not be reading book 2.

I hate bullies and stories about bullies. This book is nothing but a bunch of power hungry bullies making Sloane's poor, pathetic life even more unlivable. While Sloane shows amazing strength, she can never catch a break. With every positive she gets hit with ten negatives. Trying to be good, but forced to do bad things. While being thrown into very adult situations, the scenes definitely reflect the Young Adult view to them.
I also am not a fan of books that don't have conclusions. I read a lot of books, and want each book to end and story resolved. And after 280 pages, this book had enough time to get to a resolution and move on. But no happy endings here.
The writing was done well, but I don't think I will be continuing with Sloane's story, with reading her next book.
Read this book via Kindle Unlimited, so you will have to determine if it is worth your time and $$.

Sloan's life is dark and harsh her only goal keep her sister safe but what she wants and what she gets are entirely too different things if she hadn't developed powers she wouldn't have ended up here a powerful prison for those that can't control themselves shifters, Fae and all kinds of dark creatures her life has become more dangerous and scary and oh she's being blackmailed. She has to kill Viktor a powerful Fae prince its either him or her sister two enemies bent on destroying each other. But theres more two both of them lots of secrets allot of bad guy's and a darker need building between two people that could turn the Fae world upside down all on account of Viktor saving Sloan now there tied together weather they like it or not.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.

Crimes of Fire By J.N. Colon is Book 1 in the Wayward Fae Paranormal Prison series. This is beautifully written with well developed characters. Loved it. At times it is really intense. Sloane, MFC, has had a very rough life in the foster care system and tries to protect her foster sister Jilly from the same abuse. In so doing she kills their foster father and winds up in W.F.P prison because she is a Fae/Daemon hybrid. Before entering prison, Sloane is approached by the Unseelie Fae Queen who wants Sloane to kill her brother Viktor. For this she will make sure that Jilly is protected and safe. The adventure begins -- what is Sloane willing to do to keep Jilly safe? There are a lot of things going on which keep you interested and turning pages to the end and wanting more. This is a must read. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.

I’m somewhat new to books involving Fae, but I throughly enjoyed this one! It definitely has a very interesting and unique storyline (at least from what I have previously read) where you find a girl who has been abused while living in the system and her only positivity in life is her sister who she protects as they move from foster home to foster home. One day, she finds out that she has powers, but those powers have her end up in prison - a prison like no other. To make matters worse, she is blackmailed into killing a powerful Fae prince who is also in prison in exchange for her sister to be placed with a loving foster family. Of course this Fae she is to kill is HOTT!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I loved this book. I thought it was a great story and start of a series. The characters were amazing and so much fun to read about. By the end of the first chapter I was hooked and had to see who it would end. I enjoyed how al the creatures were presented and loved how they all interacted in the prison. Just so hard to put down and I had to finish it in one sitting. The questions raised from the beginning had to be answered. Had to find out about the truth of Sloane and could she complete her side job and survive the prison. Amazing story. The writing just drew me in and made it so easy to follow what was going on.

Intriguing series starter!

This story grabbed my interest and held it from the very first page. It has an amazing plotline and a complex cast of paranormal characters, both light and dark. Treachery and plotting abound, and it may take a miracle for Sloane to survive the Wayward Fae Penitentiary and rescue her little sister. The intricate details create a vivid picture of the prison and the inmates. J.N. Colon has crafted an excellent series starter. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary. I’m ready to devour the next book in the series!

J. N. Colon has done it again. This book is wonderful. She has managed to keep the reader thoroughly engrossed.
The setting is a prison for wayward fae. Here there are different types of Fae each with their own agenda. Slone, one of the main characters, found herself imprisoned without any knowledge of how to access her powers since she was raised as human.
The many ups and downs of this book tends to keep the reader enthralled.

This book grabbed me from the start & didn't let go. I was captivated from start to finish. Sloane is a great female lead - strong, snarky & flawed. Her journey of finding out who she is & coming into her powers is a fantastic read. I love the world the Author has created. It's filled with action, suspense, romance, magic & paranormal creatures - you can't ask for more! I can't wait for the next book.

Sloan has had a difficult life so far and it only gets worse when she protects herself from a sadistic foster father. She ends up in paranormal prison with another mission to kill. She is a good person who gets exploited because of what she is. She finds herself falling for her victim but has no idea how to get out of her deal with Queen Isadora. Sloan almost dies on several occasions and still cannot decide if she will complete her mission. Book 2 will be an anticipated read.

First let me state that I received an advanced reader copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

Holy shiznet!!! This is a gr8 beginning to an awesome story. Sloane is a damaged girl that never knew about fae, or even that she was one. She's sent to a far prison for accidentally killing and now she's being forced to kill again. But everything is complicated. I can't wait to read the next part. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
