Captured by the Vampire is an intriguing read about two tortured souls. One, a vampire who has lost his mate and is ready to end his existence, and the other, a young woman struggling to make something of herself. Zoe meets the vampire, Rowan, in jail. Ms. McAllen slowly draws these two characters together through curiosity, conflict, caring, and finally desire. This is the first book I have read from this author and look forward to continuing the series.

This is Captured By The Vampire written by Kellie McAllen. In this short story we meet Rowan as he contemplates ending his life. Being an immortal doesn’t seem all that wonderful when you are forced to be alone. Zoe comes across Rowan at work and strikes up a conversation with the vampire. Guess where the story goes next? No? Okay then, I suppose you will need to read it then.

This is the prequel to the Vampire Enforcement Agency. The story doesn't include any of the characters from the next books in the series but it is set in the same universe. Kellie creates interesting, flawed characters. In this one Rowan is a vampire who has lost his wife and is going to end it all by staying out when the sun comes up. An unfortunate vehicle accident distracts him and the story takes off from there. Tragic and emotional Rowan and Zoe go through a lot to find their HEA.

Rowan lost his mate a long time ago. He's been so lonely without her and is ready to die and turn to ash. That is until he comes across a car accident and his blood lust takes over. He's been starving himself, so when the police come and he's arrested, he's too weak to break himself free.

Zoe is miserable, her mother is a drunk and her sister is a bit of a jerk. She works as a janitor at the police station and finds herself intrigued by Rowan. But when she does something dumb, she puts not only herself but Rowan's life in jeopardy.

These two really needed each other. They came across each other at just the right time when they both needed someone and they fit together nicely. I really liked this prequel to the Vampire Enforcement Agency series, which I've never read but am intrigued enough to want to read more now.

I liked seeing how the world found out about vampires and how the treaty between humans and vampires came about. It was a quick read but gave a lot of info for the series.

Cute Prequel

Cute short story of a vampire romance. Good story with some action, suspense and love.
Might read the series next if they are longer with more detail.

This book is the prequel to McAllen's new Compelled by the Vampire series. To be honest, I don't quite see how it will come into play, as Zoe and Rowan weren't in the first book, but it is still a very entertaining standalone. Hopefully, the next few books will go back to them!

Zoe is a normal girl down on her luck. Her mom is an alcoholic who doesn't really care that they are living in a trailer park, and her sister works in a strip club. She is cleaning in the police station as a side job to pay for her community college, but she honestly doesn't see herself getting very far.

Rowan is a vampire who has had to live without his mate for many years. After starving himself, he plans to let himself turn to ash in the sun so that he can finally join her. Then he stumbles across a car accident, and one of the dead girls looks so much like her that he can't help but drink from her. He finds himself arrested, and is too weak from the starvation to break himself out. Zoe finds him and is intrigued by him. She could help him, but this might mean that she has to leave everything she has ever known. But does she have anything worth staying for?

I loved seeing Rowan and Zoe grow together in this short story. Rowan comes to her very suicidal due to living alone for so many years. Without his mate, he never saw another vampire. Zoe has been alone as she is the only one in her house who hasn't just succumbed to the circumstances, and she doesn't have time in her day to hang out with anyone else. They came together at just the right time to give each other what they needed.

As this is a novella, I was expecting just a little bit of backstory about Caroline and Roric's world. Instead, I received an entirely new story filled with vibrant characters and an amazing plot. There was description of every scene, from the trailer that Zoe lived in, to the cell that Rowan was in. It really made the book feel alive. Also, it's worth mentioning that this was a prequel that took me a good 30 minutes to read, and I am a fast reader. This was one of the longest novellas I have read in a while! I would be fine with a full-length novel just about Zoe and Rowan.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a new adult paranormal romance novel.

I received an advance copy of this book and this is my voluntary review!

The two are drawn together against all odds and in spite of Rowan’s attempts to send her away. Quick, punchy, filled with intensity from the very beginning. The blurb tells you about what happens, but actually reading the storyline gives you so much more. You seriously won’t be able to put this down. I no it’s a bit of a common statement, however it was so true. It was a definitely a will they won’t they, which I loved. The vampire himself had such a overpowering presence with a history you empathised with, a present you Couldn’t deny him and a future you hoped for him. His charisma was a constant presence with darkness touching the edges. Only by reading will you understand him. The downtrodden woman with a life of hardship has an immediate curiosity with this man the world is not ready to accept exists, herself included. She shares a myth, a fantasy, a crazy story that isn’t hers to tell. It’s met with inconceivable doubts, a stunt, a showcase of a deranged man. The magnetism between them is undeniable. The fight of both their lives is a war, a battle that shouldn’t have been. Read to see if either wins. See when and how humans have to accept this world with we live in, means we are no longer alone. Kellie McAllen is able to transcend traditional ideas and mould them into her own unique shape. This was a powerful read, due to the tension throughout, the innocence and experienced mysterious personalities draw you in until the very end.

I haven’t read the series, I started with the prequel because I thought it’d be nice to start off with that.

Since it’s a prequel - something that is mostly used to add context to the bigger series, I wasn’t expecting too much of a plot, and I was right, there isn’t much of one. The gist is that Rowan, a vampire, wants to kill himself, but instead is taking to prison where he meets Zoe, a janitor, who makes him see that life is maybe worth living.

Those of you who know me will know that I absolutely HATE instalove. I prefer to be tortured to death by a slowburner. Can you guess which trope is in this book?

You guessed it, instalove.

Now, I’m willing to ignore the huge case on instalove and lack of story because again, it’s a prequel, its job is to give context to the larger story. I feel like maybe it could have been better if it was written as an actual book itself instead of just a short insert about how vampires were outed to the public.

I’ve seen a lot of good reviews for this book and I’m wondering if maybe it would have been a better idea to read the actual series first? I don’t know.

It gets a 2 stars from me. Hopefully the actual books are better.

Music for the tortured soul

This book took about an hour and a half to read and it was a great read for sitting waiting on an appointment. The characters in the book Rowan and Zoe don't know each other from Adam and when their worlds collide things don't go as planned.

The author is giving us a book that although not overly long will still in her interesting enough to read while I waited on an appointment.

The author has given you background on Rowan and how he came to be which was kind of nice considering the length of the book. Zoe story is very reminiscent of something that could happen in today's world and how she ekes out a living to survive. Because of their actions things will turn the world up on its ears and the reaction of the world is just truly believable because we have issues like this today except they're not over vampire.

Overall I can't find fault with the book and I did enjoy the peace and quiet to read it. I have voluntarily read and review this book without obligation to the author.

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. It wasnt what I thought it would be. Thought it was gonna be like her previous book but it was still good. Rowan wants to die...his loneliness has taken its toll and when he was about to end his life he hears a car accident and sees a girl bleeding out...the blood was to much for him and he starts to drink. But is interrupted by cops and then is thrown in jail. Zoe can't believe what she is hearing. As a cleaner at the jail, she overhears what the officers are saying and doesnt believe it to be true. The man is pale and very handsome and he looks lost and sad. After talking with Rowan she decides to help him anyway she can. Rowan cant believe this girl...hes a monster and yet she doesnt see him that way. She gives him reason to live. But when the public speaks out the only way to survive us to escape but it's too much for him until zoe gives him blood. Will zoe get caught helping the vampire? Will Rowan be able to stop his insatiable hunger?

This is the beginning story to introduce the Vampire Enforcement Agency series. Rowan is a centuries old vampire, who is tired of being alone, and has never met another vampire except for his mate, whom died. Tired of being alone, he decides it is time to end his life. Half starved, and getting ready to meet the sunrise when a car accident happens close by, he stumbles over to see if he can help them one last time. But he isn’t prepared for the bloodlust. Even though the victim is already dead, he’s caught trying to drink the blood and tossed into jail. Too weak to break himself out of jail, he befriends a young girl who is a janitor at the prison, who believes him when he says he’s a vampire. When they find out that vampires have now come forward and living in society along with humans, Zoe knows she needs to get Rowan strong enough to escape.

This is a nice beginning, to introduce you to this new world. It’s well thought out, even if it’s been done quite often, the author has a put their own twist on the story, and this story wraps up well. Reviewed by Cyrene

I read Kellie McAllen’s Captured by the Vampire: A Paranormal Romance (Vampire Enforcement Agency Book 0) out of order as I’ve already read (and totally enjoyed) book 1 in the series, Compelled by the Vampire. As I noted in my review of that one, even though I’ve mostly stopped reading vampire themed novels as they’ve started getting too predictable and angst-filled, that one was superbly written and a lot of fun. No surprise then that I’ve felt compelled (sorry, couldn’t resist) to read this “book 0” introduction to the world of vampires created by the author, especially as Zoe and Rowan’s story is in itself a great stand-alone tale. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the more books in this series.

Vampire Rowan Eiris loses the will to live after his mate dies and when starvation takes too long, decides to let the sun seal his fate. Unfortunately Rowan goes into blood lust after witnessing a car accident and gets dragged off to jail when the police arrive. College student Zoë Elonda is working as a janitor at the police station when Rowan is brought in. Zoë is intrigued by the hot Rowan and secretly records the dash cam video of Rowan drinking blood and posts it to Youtube where it goes viral and leads to panic. Rowan is captivated by the beautiful Zoë but tries to scare her off for her own good. Zoë feels guilty for posting the videos and apologises, promising to make it right. What happens when Rowan tries to kill himself in his cell?

Kellie McAllen delivers an intriguing, angsty and steamy story that you won't be able to put down. I can't wait to read Compelled by the Vampire, Book 1 in the Vampire Enforcement Agency series

For a prequel of the main series (Vampire enforcement agency) I pretty much enjoyed it.
It made me look forward to the rest of the books, I haven't read yet.

As much as I enjoyed it, It definitely felt like a prequel.
Even though it was an insta-love (which I'm really not fond of), It felt like their "love" story was rushed. I do understand the "rush" part since it's a prequel and I feel like it's about more than just their story. I liked the authors writing style, the writing of details was well done.

I loved the idea of Zoe's way of portraying Rowan. Not as a vampire, not as a monster but as a beautiful soul who felt alone with no purpose to live life after his mate Anna died.
With his immortality and 200 years of existence, it must have been very lonely after she passed away. I'm glad he found another chance at love.

In my opinion this was entertaining although it had its flaws.

3/5 stars for me!

This is the prequel and the beginning of the Vampire Enforcement Agency and this is the story of how Rowan and Zoe met and fell in love. I won’t be giving any spoilers because I don’t think that I can do this book any justice so read Kellie’s blurb and that will give you the gist to this story. It’s an absolutely amazing read and in this story the humans find out that vampires really do exist and of course there are haters and lovers of their kind. The 1st book Compelled by the Vampire can be read before this one but if you want to know where it all started then I suggest you get this book you won’t regret it and I know that you will love it like I do. A fantastic story a 5 plus ++++++ ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Vampire

This is a straightforward story of a solitary vampire, Rowan, who has lost his mate and his will to live. But before he can end his life in the approaching sunshine of daybreak, he's arrested and taken to jail.
Zoe, a twenty years old student, cleans the jail at night. When Rowan is brought in and placed in solitary confinement, she's more curious than fearful. And she captures a video of Rowan's activities leading to his arrest, then posts it on the internet to raise money. But public reaction to the video is mixed, Rowan is being starved to keep him weak, and the judge has refused him bail. If she's to keep Rowan from standing in the stream of sunshine in his cell, she's going to have to act fast.

The passion and the love in this story is overwhelmingly EPIC! Towan is a vampire overwhelmed by the thought of eternity alone and decides the FInal Death is what he wanted until he met the quiet prison janitor, Zoe. He found himself enthralled by her. Something henever thought he would feel again.

Zoe just wanted to break free from the monorony of her life. She wanted more and felt there was more there. Then she meets Rowan. At first she thought him to be just a prisoner but as she was becoming drawn to him; she thought differently.

Their adventure comes quickly so does their intense love for each other. Both willing to risk it all for a love eternal. PERFECTION

A fangtastic read!

When the heroine reveals proof of vampires to the world, has she sentenced the one she loves to death?

A wonderful introduction to this series - loved seeing how vampires are revealed, how the agency came to be and how the heroine and hero fall in love.

Good writing though I had a hard time getting into third person (normally I don't because some authors can just write in third person and I can follow and love it) but it was tough. Hopefully, if the first book is in third person, it will be done right, well, for me.

Full of truth, vampires, reveals, discovery and love.

Perfect for readers of urban fantasy/paranormal romance.

A good introduction to another take on vampires. It's well portrayed with great characters.

Driven by loneliness and despair, Rowan aims at committing suicide by sunlight, but an unfortunate accident distracts him and changes his plans.

Zoe comes upon Rowan by chance whilst she is working, and starts questioning her beiliefs. Do vampires exist? Are they monsters?

The friendship which develops between Rowan and Zoe leads to romance, but with Rowan being a vampire and Zoe a human, do they have a future?

It's an enticing story which nicely leads to what promises to be a good paranormal series.

Great novel

A vampire decided to end his life, boneheaded and he knows no other vampires. He here's a crash and next thing he knows he is Sri king from a dead victim. He ends up in jail with attach consult, vampires are not real. He befriends the cleaning girl and things begin to change. It's a gripping tale of instant attraction and because of events he will be locked up for awhile. What to do he finally gets someone and they will starve him to death in a cold dank cell. Many twists and turns but a delightful novel.

Captured by the Vampire by Kellie McAllen a five-star read that will capture your imagination. This is a prequel to the Vampire Enforcement Agency series and it was great getting some back story, I loved the first book and this one just whetted my appetite before the next book. Rowan had so much more depth to himself that I first realised, and Zoe was such a great character watching her come to terms with what happens, and her story unfold was a pleasure to read.

Rowan's a vampire and Zoe is a human, but no matter what they're differences may be, they fall in love with each other. Zoe helped vampires come out to the world when she saw Rowan in the police station she worked at. He was arrested and was too weak to do anything to escape. Zoe spends time with him and they both realize they have feelings for the other. Rowan tries to scare Zoe off, but no matter what he does, she keeps coming back. I loved this book and highly recommend it.

This was a a great prequel to Kellie McAllen’s new Vampire Enforcement Agency series. It shows how Vampires came to be common knowledge and how the Vampire Enforcement Agency was created. It is also to wonderful love story between Rowan, a Vampire who feels he is at the end of his existence, and Zoe, a young woman who has just started her life’s journey. The chemistry is flammable - literally! An excellent story and a wonderful backstory for this new series.
