Duet: Death's Recital

Rate this book
She knew Ethan was a loner… …but didn’t understand why. Is he eccentric or does he have a secret? Mikayla was painfully shy. Being different was hard. The condition, called synesthesia, caused her to see colors when music was played. She only wanted two things, to become a world-class violinist and to make a friend. Will she be able to handle life in an exclusive music school? The competition was fierce. And below the surface, a scandal… …that the administration will do anything to keep hidden. When she saw Ethan playing an accompaniment on piano for violin, she saw the colors around him from the direction of the violin, but there was just one problem. He was alone. You’ll love this Paranormal Romance, because music, romance and ghosts, make for a delightful adventure you won’t want to end. Get it now.

reetings to all from Fargo. No, not everyone here talks like the TV show...

This all started a couple of years ago both on a dare plus a growing desire to open up a dusty part of my creative side and express my self in a new way.
I'll admit that part of that creative side includes both a healthy dose of the paranormal (anything spooky) and definitely sexy. Ok, add a slice of geek as well.

When I'm not busy working the 9-5 job, chasing kids and shoveling snow...I'm usually parked in a downtown coffee shop writing and people watching. It's a great source of inspiration

I hope you enjoy my books. I appreciate any and all reviews and only ask that you not leave spoilers and allow other readers their own time to unravel the mysteries.
Maybe our collective dark sides are compatible?

Mikalya is a young woman who is just getting started on a new college campus as a mid-year music student, her doctor has asked her to familiarize herself with the music rooms so that she can ease her anxiety for more control so that she will be able to perform, while she was in the old theatre she heard someone but she didn't have time to leave so she was very quiet while to young man came forward she got panicky but pulled herself together and listened to him play she thought he was good-looking he played beautifully and she realized that he was exceptional. Then Mikayla blinked and started seeing the colors coordinated with the notes and it became even more intense, then she saw a shadow creep across the stage and it got bigger she was frightened and then she saw the shadow limbs turn into hands. She thought she screamed "Get Out" but she didn't say it loud enough for the young man to hear her but the shadow turned toward her and as the dark cloud was illuminated she saw a face emerge she saw a pair of grey eyes watching her and she screamed and ran out of the room. By this time the young man heard her and stop playing she was gone and all he saw was blonde hair flying behind a young woman, Ethan was a student with issues similar to Mik's, his ability to perform in front of an audience and with his studies slipping he cannot afford to fail he was a loner he didn't want to be but that is the way it is. Then Ethan noticed that when he left the practice room and came back one day during a break there were some notes on his music sheet when he returned and it scared him he knew he had not written them on the sheet it frightened him and ran away. Next time he was asking for more notes to be added because the music that he was making from the notes was fascinating. One day after practice he saw this woman in the practice hallway and she was playing the violin the very music that was on his sheet music and so beautiful but what he doesn't understand yet is the woman is not exactly what she presumes to be. Then Ethan started practicing with the young woman she said her name was Sara and they played so well together and as Ethan got to know her he found out the truth it was weird but none the less he fell in love and very hard even though he knew it couldn't work. He would always go to the student union every day and played on the piano for about 5 mins but as he went alone before he was with Sara now but unfortunately no one could see her but Ethan and Mik. Mik had a friend Kelli and she had some friends that dealt with the ghost or phenomenons. Lots of action, romance, and suspense. Unbelievably interesting story and the characters are fabulous. Wow, never expected this. Beautiful. Haunting. I don’t think anyone could do justice to describing this story. It was awesome. A man who has lead a life forced by his mother to do nothing but compete in swimming competitions and perform concerts at a young age, is finally free when his mother dies. But a life with no friends and no other interest, has made him shy, introverted, and has damaged his music and his self-esteem. Enter a beautiful talented ghost, another student who secretly loves him, and several paranormal/ghost hunter students, and his life will change. The students who befriend him will help not only him attain his goals, but themselves as well. This author is a talented story teller and has great imagination and makes the characters come alive. I like purple. It was naturally that my gaze fell on the cover. The summary intrigued me. So I wanted to read it.

The first chapter was a good start but then I struggled to enter into the story. It took a long time for me to begin to like it: thirty percent of the book.

The story takes place mostly on a campus and follows music students. There are several characters that we meet who will experience the paranormal, but some are more important than others. They are nice but I didn't have a feeling for them.

When the musicians played, I heard music in my head. It's the first book I've read that talks about music so I don't know if it's normal or if I'm haunted (LOL).

My reading was pleasant but nothing more. Only the paranormal side really interested me. This book was obviously not for me.

I didn't know the author but she has other titles to her credit.

Mikayla was a late transfer; terrified her secret would get out, she's hesitant to make friends. But Kelli, Edward and Alvin soon become good friends. Mikayla wasn't sure about getting involved in their ghost hunting club, but when she does....

Ethan had suffered a breakdown when his mother passed on. Struggling to find his center, Ethan is startled when the beautiful blonde Sara interrupts his solitary practices. But Sara is loving and generous, and quickly ends Ethan's fears of performing for an audience. As time passes Ethan and Sara grow ever closer...

But strange and frightening events are erupting all over campus. When Mikayla and her friends investigate, what their equipment captures sends everyone into a tailspin...

Captivating from the start, this paranormal tale grabs your attention and doesn't let go! Loved it!

Interesting concepts. Slow at times until the end of the first third (in the form that I read). After that, the pace seemed to step up quite a bit. A lot of dramatic points. A few hair raising experiences. Plenty of tearful scenes. Great story. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

Action-packed. Entertaining. Great world building. Haunting. Page-turner. Romantic. Scary. Steamy. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

This book is very interesting. I enjoyed Kelli’s perverse humor, Sara’s dedication, Ethan’s growth and the enthusiasm of Ed and Alvin, but mostly Mykala. She really drew me in. Even in adversity, she could not bear to see someone else hurt. They all formed a great team, even Amanda. No one really exhibited horrible temperament, except one character, but someone has to be the bad guy. The entire school seemed very dedicated to aspiring artists.. I read this straight thru, so enjoy.
