Caly
Do you dream of ridiculously hot men? Okay, maybe you do. (And yes, I'm well aware I should lay off the romance books before bed.) But do you actually ever meet those men you dream about in real life? I didn't think so. That's probably a good thing though because I have... And these men from my dreams have done nothing but pull the rug of reality out from under me... which was how I fell and ended up in a world that I thought only existed in romance books.

My name is Caly (AKA Callie) and I'm just an ordinary single woman living the LA dream... paycheck to paycheck. Except whose dream is it? I'm not really sure... but it's not my dream. Especially because I have really weird dreams... like really weird. Then again, everyone has weird dreams, right?

Blake
I am an alpha wolf shifter and leader of Orion's Order, a pack of... well, not wolves. We're an unconventional pack of highly skilled specian hunters that do one thing: hunt the evil in our world. And we were hired by SILE (Species Investigative Law Enforcement) to hunt a bloodthirsty criminal who is infamously untraceable. That was until an irresistible female brought an unexpected twist to our hunt and set things in motion... a motion that has left my pack and our world forever changed.

Welcome to The Order and a secret world of magic and mystery, where a pack of unlikely friends find love and fight against an ancient evil force.

Thank you to the author and Netgalley for allowing me me to read this book in exchange for an honest review!

”I mean, I can’t walk through life and just keep waiting for the other shoe to drop because that’s no way to live life.”

This book sucked me in for the first few pages and I was loving it! I felt the plot was interesting and Caly was a very funny and relatable MC, although she seemed to be quite immature and a brat at times. Blake was hot and every girls dream Wolf, although I wanted him to be more “Alpha, who takes no shit”, instead he kind of bowed down to Caly. There were a couple of things that were considered “cons” for me.

-After the first couple of chapters, there were a few things that became repetitive. Although the sex was always steamy in this book, the descriptions were the same. Some descriptions and scenes also seemed to drag on the chapters.

-There were a lot of characters to remember and their POVs weren’t separated. Instead of having each POV a different chapter or separated by a “spacer”, they jumped from one persons thought to another’s as you were reading. I’d have a pencil and paper to keep track of all the characters. On the plus side, they were mostly all likeable and that that bromance/founding family situation going on.

If you’re a NOT a fan of insta love, I don’t think you’ll enjoy this story. The insta love is heavy and although it’s a Mating situation, the couple are smitten with each other quite fast.

The Pros? A interesting plot, likeable the characters are Wolves, vampires, seers, etc and you’ll be anxious to learn about each species. Nico? Oh mysterious, brooding Nico. I need more of him!

There were some cheesy moments between the two main love interest, but nothing that would make you throw your book and cringe.

I think the author set this book up to become apart of what could be a good series!

ARC copy provided in exchange for an honest review. This in no way changes my rating or review.

3 cliché stars.

Yes, this was cliché. And yes, it was occasionally boring, mildly over the top and a little bit ridiculous. But I actually still enjoyed it, and I loved the humour!

This was a classic PNR (paranormal romance) with alpha males, protective shifters and lifelong mate bonds. The characters weren’t anything special (honestly, not much of the book was very special), but I still found the character dynamics and storyline mildly addictive and quite entertaining. This is a good book for the days when you’re stuck inside with nothing to do and lots of time to spare (and believe me, this book will need LOTS of time, because its a damn long book). There’s lots of sex and males that will bend over backwards for the women, along with some interesting fantasy elements and special magical snowflake heroines. But do not fear, because there’s humour as well!

So, what’s this about? Well, there’s this chick who keeps having weird dreams about people, and then suddenly meets this dude and has sex with him within, like, two minutes. Ok, there’s more to the story than that, but it’s not really a tough story to follow.

‘But Darcey’, you ask, ‘why should I read it? You ain’t really talking it up.’
Very true, imaginary reader, very true. Well, honestly, the best parts about this were the twins and the humour. The two twin panther (I think? They were large cats of some kind.) shifters were funny, playful and massive eaters – three big ticks from me. I loved hearing about them, and they were my absolute favourite characters.

“‘Pizza.’ Rhyland’s expression emulated the heart-eyed emoji. ‘Good call.’”

Ahh, that’s my boy. The twins were also full of humour and good times, and ready to lighten the mood if ever needed.

“This is the first piece of what the twins are calling the Calyp-So Gonna Kill You Collection.”

And amazing at puns, of course 😉. And they weren’t the only funny characters. Caly actually had some really funny thoughts while narrating, and I enjoyed her sarcasm and spunk, not to mention her brilliant feminism.

“Hi, Dr. Oliver. Yeah, so, I thought you were going to be a male. Why? I don’t know. Doc, why don’t we start there because clearly I have a lot of shit to work through.”

Honestly I feel her there, I hate hearing ‘doctor’ and thinking ‘man’, but it’s sometimes what happens! Unconscious bias is a bitch.
One of my other favourite scenes was this:

“She froze and looked around to see if there was anything she could use to defend herself. Perhaps a rock or a fallen tree branch.
God, why was the forest floor so damn tidy? Why knew forest fairies had OCD.”

And, last (and most importantly) of all, Caly had great movie taste.

“For whatever reason, the movie How to Train Your Dragon popped into her head.”
Hell yeah! That’s an amazing movie!

Overall, this may not have been amazing (or very memorable at all), but I did enjoy it and I did like the humour. Thank you so much to the author and BookSirens for the free copy!

Meet Caly, an ordinary girl, that has not much personality besides an obsession with her coffee of the moment and her playlists, that is not so ordinary after all. First, she gets abducted by the guys she’s been dating (in her defense, it was only two dates) because he wants to know what species she is. Then, she is rescued by a sexy Alpha male (wolf shifter) and his group (called the Orion order) and she learns that she is not actually human and that she has special abilities and is immortal. The guy who abducted and tortured her is also a powerful shifter and a serial killer, the one that Orion’s order has been looking for, for quite some time.

I enjoyed the first 30% of this book, but it gets boring after that. The scenes are repetitive and not much happens besides the everyday life of Caly, the sexy shifters, and the vampire. Also, the way the order of Orion is introduced is a little bit confusing. It took me two whole chapters to finally figure out who was who and I even thought that the guy she was dating was part of the order for a while.

I thought this story would be more about the murders and the search for the psycho killer, but I made it as far as 70% and I am still reading about Caly getting used to her new life as a species and having torrid sex with her lifemate/sexy wolf shifter. I just don’t care about this story and the characters enough anymore to continue. There are so many useless descriptions and this story drags on and on and on. Everything is described…I don’t mind descriptions, but I don’t need to know about the color of your makeup, the yoga outfit that someone is wearing, all the ingredients in your friend’s sandwich, or the way your messy bun is not as pretty as you wish it were.

Overall, the beginning was promising, and from the many good the reviews I read, I assume that the end gets better and that it’s worth it because there are a lot of 4 stars and 5 stars ratings… But the middle is boring, ordinary, and way too long, it killed the mystery and the ambiance that the first chapters created. There are many repetitive or pointless scenes, and a lot of inner monologues, that could have been removed to allow us to get to the real plot of the story (because I am still assuming that this story is somewhat about catching a serial killer).

I wanted to love this SO much. As soon as this was compared to a J. R. Ward book I knew I was in for a fantastic story with great world-building and a great cast of characters. BUT it started off shaky with a male narrator, named dropped HP and ended up with an insta-love couple. I just gave up then and there.

The narration could have been better. Then again that's coming from someone who usually dislikes male narrated audiobooks, so take my opinion with a big grain of salt. I couldn't help but wish this was narrated by someone like Nicole Poole. She has such a fantastic range in believable female and male voices. It would have been a better listen for me were she the narrator. In the actual narration, there was barely any differentiation between all the male characters in the book. This would have been better as a dual narration or (if I'm dreaming high) a full cast narration.

The world-building was getting interesting but I just couldn't get over the insta-love to continue on in this series. This will probably shape up to be a series with a fantastic universe featuring different paranormal creatures. It just simply isn't for me.

Okay, so I’m going to say it! I really do feel sorry for our spouses….

Yes, seriously!! We are so hard to please. Here are a few thing that I have said during my reviews (and don’t pretend you don’t do the same thing). I clearly have not idea what I really want.
~ “I wish the hero was not such an asshole” and “I wish the hero was more of an asshole”
~ “This book could have been 200 pages shorter with less detail” and “I wish they made this book longer and gave us more detail”

Seriously, I’m not joking. Those are just a couple of reasons why we prove daily that we are never happy!

I know crazy right? Does that mean I’m going to stop being such a picky bitch when it comes to my books, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
.
.
.
.

Okay random rant over! And you will understand where that came from during this review.

Now, before I really get into this review, there are a few things you need to know going into this book.

~ It is long, like Kristen Ashley long. Its starts a little slow, the first 8ish chapters keep you wondering when it is going to really kick into gear. But those first 8 chapters aren’t bad, they just have you wondering what direction this is going

~ There are a lot of details, and world building. Again, this is not necessarily bad but it makes for a long book. There are so many Species involved in this series all the details are kinda needed to help you understand how 3 shifters, a vampire and an aristocrat tech nerd all live happily in a house. Like I said above, if this book was 200 pages shorter I would probably be writing about how it didn’t make sense how all these species got along and interacted so well.

~This book is told in lots of POV’s - so while reading this book it is definitely getting set up for books to come. And since this book is so detailed and LONG - the books to come hopefully won’t need all the back story and world building since this one is pretty much covering it all. Also the way the POV’s change are quick. It can be confusing, but there are some parts that I actually loved the way it flipped back and forth between the couple through a conversation, so you always know what the hell the other is thinking for their actions. Sometimes it was actually funny to read how they were thinking the same thing, but their actions were totally different.

Now, as if this review isn’t long enough let's dive into the actual book a bit.

Caly is a dream traveler, but she is raised in the human world. She has absolutely no idea Specian’s even exist, let alone that she is one. But, she has spent her entire life feeling like something is missing, and not being able to figure out just what it is. So while she not sure about this new world, she is driving in and embracing it.

The first part of the book is her meeting a guy named Nick, when she rear-ends him driving to work. He is a specian and can scent that she is one as well, so he follows her for a few days. Then bumps into her and asks her out because he thinks she hit him on purpose and is working with Blake and The Order.

Blake (our hot alpha wolf of The Order) has been hunting The Ghost (aka Nick) for years and they just can’t catch him. The first time he meets Caly is in a dream that she pulls him into. But he can only see her eyes. I will say, the topic of Caly’s eyes if definitely brought up in this book a lot, like a lot.

Yes, Blake and Caly have an insta-love connection in this book - BUT THEY ARE LIFE MATES GUYS!! It’s supposed to be like that. For this book being so long, the sex was definitely there, but also spread out enough that it didn’t feel like it was over done in my opinion.

Now, the side characters are awesome! I can’t wait for the Twins’ books. Actually I really can’t wait for Nico. I love me a mysterious badass. We get all their POVs in this book, so we can to know them each a little bit more.

And so you know, like I said it starts off a little slow, then we get some huge Ghost drama and you are totally sucked in. The middle of the book is definitely a lot of world and character development. It is a lot of how Caly is transitioning to this new world, how her relationship is going and meeting new characters that are coming. Then the higher drama comes back in the end. Which I think would have made this a solid 5 star with those elements continued through the entire book and not just the beginning and end.

I did truly love all the details about these characters, their personalities, their abilities and the world that they lived it. Everything was explained very well in my opinion. My only real complaint is the middle just got a little boring for me. I do love me some angst and I would have liked to see more happening with The Ghost throughout the whole book. I can’t wait to read Rhyker’s book and see how it is. Since this is the first book in what looks to be at least 4 books already, but I can definitely see at least 6 books coming from it so far it makes sense that it is the developing book.

If you are looking for a book for a long weekend, and some traveling, where you have the time to delve in and get lost in this world this is a great book. I don’t think this can be enjoyed to its fullest in short pieces though, but that’s also just my personality.

Absolutely loved this, the first couple of chapters were a touch slow, but even with that I was still hooked and needed to know what was going on. I love Caly and Blake so much, Caly is tough but in the real woman tough sense, strong but not invincible and with flaws, with what she goes through and doesn’t give up, I loved her so much. Who wouldn’t love and want their own Blake or either of the twins ! I loved this so much I rushed off and bought it in hardback because I needed a physical copy to love too ! This is a great start to a new series and I really look forward to future books. Highly recommended

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Book Sirens in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way affected my review of the novel.

A Barrier exists between Caly’s world and that of the species, though Caly doesn’t realize it.

Yet.

All that’s on Caly’s mind now is the perfect mocha latte, her masterful play lists, feline bestie Felix, work (ugh), and romance novels (sigh). That is, until she begins dreaming dreams of gorgeous, green- and gold-eyed men who send a call to her heart like the sound of distant horns.

Blake is the alpha of Orion’s Order, a pack of wolf shifters, vampires, and whatnot. He and his team work for SILE - the Species Intelligence and Law Enforcement group - and their main objective is to eliminate threats to the species. In other words, kill evil POSes. The Order has long been on the hunt for The Ghost, a serial killer who strikes and then disappears with nary a clue. But lately, Blake’s been getting pulled into a dreamscape with a woman he can’t see. The dream woman ends up being music- and latte-loving Caly, who has no clue how flipped her life is going to get once she lets these bodacious men into her life.

Even as aroused as he is around her, Blake can sense Caly is something … not human, despite her protests. And now Caly’s life is in danger from the very one SILE is hunting - The Ghost - who has also realized Caly is something extra special with whipped cream and sprinkles on top.

This was an enjoyable book with some fun twists on shifters and vampires. I enjoyed the characters, but ended up lusting after the secondary characters more than the main ones! Caly and Blake end up having a lovely HEA and are clearly meant for each other. But I am really, really looking forward to the next book, which will focus on dark and sexy Rhyker, also part of the Order. Oooh, and Riordan. How can I forget him? I’m dying to read more about his sexy Irish self, too!

One thing I adored about the book was the large part Felix, Caly’s kitty, played. As a verifiable cat lady, I love that everyone took to Felix, and Felix was chill as all get out, no matter the circumstances. My favorite Felix part was when he was dressed as Olaf from Frozen. Too. Cute.

The book, however, started out slowly for me, and I didn’t really get into the story until about 30 percent of the way in. And this bad boy is hefty at well more than 650+ pages. In hindsight, the book was a little long for the tale. There was excitement and plenty of awesome sex, but overall was a bit draggy.

I am also a bit confused as to where the species world actually is located. Here? There? Somewhere else? After the initially slow beginning, however, I began to enjoy the book quite a bit more and believe anyone craving a sexy shifter story will, too.

Thank you to BookSirens for inviting me to read Calypso's Heart and providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Calypso's Heart is the story of Calypso "Caly" and her discovery with the supernatural and the things that she can do. From the beginning, we are shown Caly's hidden talents that she is still uncovering, and the meeting of her and this mysterious man named Blake of Blake Orion's Order. But what they do is a complete mystery to her until she discovers things she never knew were real.

I gave Calypso's Heart four stars, really enjoying the romance between Caly and Blake. Not only was it steamy but it was the type of relationship that really supports each other. And you really can't go wrong with instant attraction. Their chemistry was strong and the love they felt for each other was impeccable. I had such a fun time as they got together and really showed each other how much they really loved each other. Calypso's Heart had great chemistry elements and also the discovery of the supernatural world or the species as they call it was quite interesting.

The one thing I have to say about Calypso's Heart was the fact that they called the Supernatural "Species" instead of saying supernatural. It was unusual and I just felt put off with the fact that I wasn't calling anything supernatural but species. That was probably the one element that made me cringe every time I saw the word. I know that they were of course different species but I disliked that the supernatural were called that. It put me off a lot.

I found that Calypso's Heart is one of those books that is your guilty pleasure. I felt that I knew I wasn't going to take this as a super serious read but something that I enjoy on my own time and I quite enjoyed it. There were fun and cute elements between Caly and Blake that made me really enjoy it and I love that there's more than just the steam factors with Calypso's Heart.

Thank you again to BookSirens for inviting me to read Calypso's Heart and providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a DNF after eight chapters of confusing jumble of pointless, repetitive scenes that failed to convince me that the author can carry a book for over seven hundred pages. I wasn't willing to find out if I'm wrong.

I should've stopped after the first chapter that managed to include all the do not do clichés of an opening, including a dream sequence, a detailed description of morning routines, and the main character staring at herself in the mirror in order to describe herself. She also managed to release the breath she didn't know she was holding twice in two consequent paragraphs. The 'heros' are introduced in an infodump that was so confusing that I had no idea who was who. Only later I realised that I was supposed to pay special attention to one of them, because apparently the bad guy is using his name. This resulted in the worst kind of blind an author has managed to pull on me in a long time, which made me question everything I'd read that far. If it was supposed to be a plot twist, it failed miserably and only caused me to stop reading.

The characters were the worst. Caly has no personality, only a favourite latte and a strange fixation to her playlists. The men were disgusting frat-boys who enjoy bullying one another and then gathering around as a group to laugh at the victim, followed by fistfights, the so called alpha included. I cannot respect them at all, and I most definitely won't care for asholes like them. Their scenes are made infinitely worse by pointless head-hopping, which makes it absolutely impossible to know who is observing it. Most of the time it's the author, resulting in very loving descriptions of male flesh that a straight man wouldn't do, at least not characters who think insinuating that one of them is gay for laughs is good sport.

Based on eight chapters, I'd say this book is in desperate need of a brutal, experienced editor who trims it to its basic plot and then makes sure the author doesn't fill it back in with repetitive scenes, chapters that don't lead to anything and endless clichés. If that ever happens, let me know and I'll give the book a re-read.

This is just about the most condemning review I've ever written and I'm sorry for the inevitable upset. The premise of the book is good and I'm sure the book would be good too with careful attention and a lot of work.

My review :

When she learns everything she thought she knew was only a half truth, how will she face her future ...

I might have done an error when setting this book in my scheduled arc calendar as I wrote its release to be for July, 20.
And because the length of it put me off a bit, I planned to read it a few days before release but while preparing my review I discovered it was released a few days ago.
And by curiosity I checked on a few of the reviews, some wrote too about the length, so I now dread a bit more my reading.
But here we go.
And yes it is a long book but until the last quarter, I did not felt it dragged on except from time to time too many details but outside that, it was an interesting read.
While the beginning reminds me a bit of Lucas and Sasha story in the first Psy-Changeling novel when they meet in their dreams, the similarities stop there. In fact the many different super beings, the Orion order and the ancient group and the divided world made me more think about the Bewitched and Bewildered series.
Sure it lags a bit at time with many details, the author introduces her new world and her many characters, offering to each of them at one moment or an other their own space to voice their thoughts.
It even sets up some of the potential couples to be featured in the next books.
I liked the Caly of the beginning, even if I knew where the plot would lead her. And I was quite upset at how her rescue was handled, I did not felt it was an emergency, like they needed too much time to find her.
After the Caly post trauma was very ambivalent, often shifting from one mood to another, dancing around Blake. And oft hurting him even if it was involuntarily done.
Thus I was not sure about the Evil Ice Queen part nor its necessity to the global plot.

But Blake, I loved him, he knows what he wants and goes for it.
Sure he has no doubts on his origins when Caly must learn everything. But he is straightforward and plays no game.
He is an alpha and he takes his role seriously, he protects and hunts if necessary.

The other members of the group are all very intriguing, from the twins big kitties full of fun, the vampire, the geek, the seer, the healers...
Outside shifters, I do wonder if the other species feel the life mate pull?

In all, even if it was not perfect, it is fun new world, I still have some interrogations about it but the various characters will keep the stories up to come entertaining.
4,25 stars .

I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Calypso's Heart, Orion's Order Book 1, M.C. Solaris

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Sci-fi and fantasy, Romance.

I love this genre combo and expected to love this book. Sadly I couldn't get past 20% and that was a struggle.
I found Caly obsessed with her morning drinks, and just plain weird. I mean, you have a recurring dream, you wake up one night and they guy – searingly hot and massive of course – is in your bedroom. What do you do – scream? Leap out of bed to grab something to defend yourself with? Rush for your phone? All of those? Caly? She just tells herself she must be dreaming and happily has sex with the guy. I was rolling my eyeballs there. I mean Blake is supposed to be a hero/gentleman, yet he's happy to have sex with this unknown woman, who might be a threat to all he and his friends do, who has one of said friends waiting for him in the next room.....
Then there's the confusion over who was who. Caly meets and dates a couple of times someone called Nick, so when we met a Nico among Blake's guys I thought maybe they were the same – but no, The guys making up the order behaved like overgrown college kids. There's a difference between banter and tussles or juvenile talk and fights. It was as if everything was either something to joke about or something that involved some of them fighting it out. I didn't feel the long bonds of friendship I expected, hadn't a clue what they were actually doing, hadn't the patience to listen to more of Caly's inner musings or watch her unbelievable actions.
Maybe if I could have made myself read more it gets better, but for me if its not working by this far in its not going to suit me. I can see others love it, as usual its the horses for courses stuff, what one person doesn't like another loves, so make your own judgment.
I did restart this twice thinking maybe id missed something, that restarting might make it read differently but sadly, no. Just not one for me. I hate writing low star reviews, I'm aware of all the hard work that goes into a novel, but sometimes it has to be done, or it makes higher star reviews meaningless.

Stars: Two, a book others love but which was a fail for me.

Meh. Caly was boring and had the very feel of damsel in distress. Things did not change much, other than that the main characters became the insta-love couple i most times dislike. I had hoped it was going to be fun, easy read and hot. But it was not.

Introduced within a dream, Calypso's Heart welcomes you in with a captivating premise. Well done new author M.C. Solaris!

Massive amounts of world-building as this is book one in Orion's Order and just the beginning of what I feel will be a fantastic series. Multiple POV's and much time spent getting to know the surrounding and secondary characters is to be expected.

It's also a bit of a insta love/lust situation, but many Paranormal Romances are that way. When the animal inside knows what it wants it just knows! ((smirky-smirk))

Great Read. Fun characters and the beginnings of a new PNR series to watch out for!

I quite enjoyed this although I struggled through the first few chapters. The characters are strong and the world-building was interesting. There are some things that I found less than exciting and others I enjoyed.

What I disliked:

The sex was quite hot but some of it became repetitive.

There are a ton of characters and although I cant wait to find out which will perhaps get their own stories in the future it is still a lot to keep track of.

The descriptions of people and things were just too much, and instead of drawing me into the story, it actually took me away.

What I loved:

The story was well written and although you often catch shades of similar novels stands well on its own.

The plot (although at times dragging) was unique and interesting.

The love story between Caly and Blake had me coming back for more. I loved seeing them grow and learn, and fall in love.

The other characters were funny and kept me entertained in moments that might have dragged without them.

All in all, it was worth the long read

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Calypso's Heart  is the first book in the adult paranormal romance Orion's Order series by M.C. Solaris. This book was huge! It clocks in at over 650 pages, and though I did really enjoy the book and am certainly interested in continuing on in the series, it did feel a bit long at times. I had to put this book down a couple of times to take a break from the characters and the story, read something else and then I was ready to get back into Calypso's heart, which is a bit unusual for me. Normally I like to read books straight through. (in one sitting if I can manage it.) That being said, I did end up enjoying this story and I do love a good paranormal romance, heavy on the steam, which Calypso's Heart really does deliver!

In Calypso's Heart we meet our main characters Caly and Blake. The book is told in a multiple point of view narrative, which is my favorite narration style. Blake is a very coveted wolf shifter, and when he meets Caly. There is insta love because of the whole fated mates element, which is something I enjoy so it didn't bother me in the slightest, but I did want to warn you if that is off putting to you as a reader. I loved all the of various characters we meet in Calypso's Heart, and I like how big the world felt. There is a lot going on with all of the different creatures and because of that the plot was pretty interesting.

At times, I felt like the pacing of the story was a bit slow and at times, a little disorienting. Because of the multiple points of views and some jumping from character to character and from plot line to plot-line, I did have a hard time keeping tracking of the characters/povs. And as I mentioned earlier, the book felt a little long to me. There were a few repetitive scenes that I felt could have been cut, but overall I really enjoyed the plotline of the book.

I can't wait to see how the characters grow and develop in the series. I think there are a lot of opportunities for some of the less mature characters to have fantastic character arcs, and I am super interested to find out what is going to happen next. Overall, this was a solid start to the Orion's Order series. I am interested to see where the books will go from here.

Calypso’s Heart is a hot paranormal romance that had me hooked from the beginning.

Caly, a human girl starts having vivid dreams of a ridiculously good looking man only to soon discover a whole new world of the species. And the man in her dreams is not only real but an Alpha Wolf shifter Blake.

There is a new magical world full of things and species we get to discover and learn all about with Caly. But along with all the new and exciting things, there is darkness and danger.

The sex is sizzling.

The romance is swoon-worthy.

And the friendships are family.

I loved this book and all the action-packed drama that Caly, Blake, and the rest of the pack bring to the table. I am beyond eager to start reading about the members of The Orion’s Order finding love just as Caly and Blake did, especially my twin jaguar shifter loves.

From the very beginning this book had me from page 1. For me this book was like a twist on the "Twilight" storyline but definitely different and way better. First you have Caly, which is short for Calypso who is living her life just like many of us living paycheck to paycheck working in a job you don't necessary love but stay with it because it does pay the bills. Until one eventful day when she hits the backend of a car and meets this very mysterious man that turns out to be a very, very bad person known as James Barker-aka-The Ghost who kidnaps Caly and tries to make her tell him what "species" she is and all she can tell him is "human" which he does not believe her and causes physical, emotional & psychological torture on her. And that is when Caly's story shifts to something completely different when during the beatings she keeps receiving at the hands of The Ghost, an unknown forcefield surrounds Caly as if to protect her. The there is Blake, who is a shifter who shifts into a werewolf that is pulled into Caly's dreams which is where we find out that Caly is a "dream traveler". This book had everything from werewolves, vampires, mind healers, body healers, trainers, seers, and everything inbetween. If you love shifter romance novels then this one is for you and it definitely does not disappoint. All I can say is WOW and hope there will be more to this Orion's Order collection in the future because you have me hooked.

If you like Christine Feehan's Dark Series, J.R. Ward's Black Daggar Brotherhood Series, you'll enjoy this new series by M.C. Solaris.

Caly lost her parent's four years ago. She's now a paralegal in LA, who love's her latte's, muffins, and assorted music. Best of all, her lovey fur-baby Felix, the cat.

One Evening she begins to have some really weird dreams. One with a nice GQ looking kind of man.

A few nights later, Caly dreams of being in a cave and being drawn to the most gorgeous golden eyes.

Days later we meet Blake, Alpha wolf. Head of the "Orion's Order." He's a great leader who loves and protects his pack.

He lives with a vampire, twin panther shifters, including a computer nerd. Blake just happens to have a pair of beautiful glowing, golden eyes that you'd never forget. They all work for SILE (Species Intelligence and Law Enforcement).

Between missions, there is a lot of rough housing and joking between the twins and the rest ........

All through the story you will find, chills and spills: heartache, laughs, mystery, bar scenes and even some yoga.

First off I want to thank the author M.C. Solaris and bookfunnel for the invite to listing to and review the first book in one of my all time favorite series I had to say yes because it had everything in it that I loved the first time I read it which was characters that I got to grew and love even more, Wolves, vampires, seers, and other really cool species , it had me laughing all over again and this way I got to see my favorite characters come to life even more then they did before. And the narrator , wow just wow he did an amazing job and how he bright all of them to life as well as how he mad the buy guy sound so creepy and dark as well as twisted, every time he did that part I got shivers up and down my spin, and I tend to not to listen to many audiobook but with doing this series I'm so looking forward to the second book even more then before.

This is the 1st book I've read written by M.C. Solaris; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the characters.

First and foremost, I edited and formatted this book. And woah, woah... before you write me off for having a biased opinion, please understand that I pride myself on relaying honest, unbiased reviews regardless of affiliation or non-affiliation. It’s a much better way to be in the world. (So here's to being honest in general but especially with our friends. They may not like it at first, but they'll likely respect and (grow to) appreciate it, if not immediately, at some later date... like when FB shows us an "on this day" picture from 10 years prior when we thought crimped/fried blonde hair, nude lipstick, and an orange tan were the look to beat! We wouldn't have listened but still could've used the honesty.) Back to the honest book review.

So I don’t want to give away too much but what I love about this book is the mix, the balance, between fiction and nonfiction. There are fictional characters, supernaturals, and settings, of course, but (most of) the relationships and problems are very much real world. And best of all? The advice to these issues is akin to what you might experience in a holistic therapy session. So while you’re transported into this new world, you also are learning about real ways to address interpersonal relationship issues and group dynamics. Stereotypes and stigmas. Gender roles and the “masculine” and “feminine.” Hell, you’ll even probably learn some new coping mechanisms. I think I actually stretch, meditate, and seek council from friends more as a subconscious side effect of reading this book.

The main character’s experiences are very relatable for me. From where she lives in the beginning of the story and the office politics she has to deal with, to the La La Land (LA) dating scene antics, the set up is very believable. Caly (the main character) however, I don’t share a lot of similarities with personally, being that I am someone who is regarded as rather “masculine” by societal standards. But she certainly reminds me of many of my friends: excited about things like coffee and tea, a good book, “girl time,” cute/comfy outfits, movies, and music. (P.S. for anyone who is a little more “masculine” like me, don’t worry. We get our female character represented in books 2 and 3!)

The Pace: I appreciate the pace of the book and for the most part, being shown, rather than told. The scene and settings unfold appropriately and you really delve deeper into the characters themselves as the story progresses (much of the first chapters are establishing who, what, where, when, and why). So if you are looking for a book that punches you in your face, right out the gate, with unrealistic action, tasteless sex scenes, and emotional turmoil, this won’t be it. Go watch Shameless instead. But if you are looking for something that unfolds at a pace that gives you time to decipher the characters, setting, and complexities of the story that is to come, then this is for you.

The Characters: Here’s the thing, at one point in the book, a group of characters are all introduced in a short amount of time. While this might not be standard protocol for fictional stories, it’s realistic. Trust that it was done with purposeful intent. Without giving away too much about the story, you get to learn about a pack of males in their environment, doing what males do. It actually reminds me of a group of my guy friends from college. Here’s how I like to think of it: it’s like when you walk into a small party (or as my friends affectionately call them, “kickbacks,”) and you meet the entire group at once. First you’re like, okay how am I going to remember these names? Then, as time goes on, you’re like, “Oh okay, W and X are the funny ones, Y is the Bawss Dogg, and Z is mysterious AF and maybe I’ll try to set him up with my friend Kaylee. She’s a weirdo like he is.” ...or whatever. You get the idea. That’s how I felt as I read this book. Characters develop and you learn more about them as time goes on. Again, this definitely isn’t a “quick-hit” book, where you get your fleeting pleasure placeholder of a temporary fix and then move on. It’s a balanced and realistic storyline that develops and progresses page by page.

The only thing I would have preferred without are the sex scenes themselves... But also, that’s a big contributing factor as to why you wanted to read this book in the first place. The actual genre of this book demands for it. That being said, even if you are like me and no matter how well-written they are, you would rather walk over the wood chips in your backyard barefooted than read sex scenes, you’ll still enjoy this book. The storyline is captivating. At one part, I actually did not realize I was holding my breath in suspense until the character released her breath… at which point, I released mine. Then a watery substance filled my eyes (I’m told these are tears). And I was like “wow... I rarely cry.”

Sheesh is she done with her review yet?!

Yes.

Thank you,
I relinquish the rest of my time to the speaker of the house… er, the fellow Goodreaders!

I love Paranormal Romances - it falls in the the exact area between fantasy and reality that makes it very easy to fall into; especially if it is quite well written!

Calypso's Heart is the first book in what looks to be a whole new series about Vampires, Wolves, Seers, Witches etc
but much of this book was laying the foundation to not just the romance but also the whole slew of characters who will, hopefully have their own HEAs.

Like most PNRs, Calypso's Heart also has a strong Insta _ Love plotline (Mating situations!); so if you aren't a fan of this plotline, maybe keep away - because it is overly strong in this book; as well as some cheesy situations between the main characters!

I really like the protagonists; Caly may come off as a brat at times, but she is still young so that's pardonable but she is also quirky and weirdly relatable! Blake, on the other is a dreamy and charming Wolf; one you could totally drool over! Though, the book could have used a little more structure - there were multiple POVs; yet there was no indication whose view we were reading, until I was halfway through the chapter!

I still definitely enjoyed the book; and would definitely pick up the next one in the series <3

Calypso's Heart has very promising elements for a very fun new paranormal series.

There is a lot going on in this book. Caly has been waking up after having very intense, very weird dreams about handsome men. Blake, alpha wolf shifter and leader of Orion's Order, has been having vivid dreams of a woman with intense grey eyes. And then, off we go. When I say there is a lot going on, I mean A LOT.

Normally, I am super excited to start a new paranormal series or really any new to me author but from the beginning, we have so much information and quite a few paranormal pitfalls piled on top of one another and a huge pile of info-dump that had me flipping back my e-reader pages because I was so confused. I think the author was attempting to connect us with our h by the great unifiers (music and coffee) but these scenes came across as very awkward and really oddly superficial air-head-ish. I feel where we lacked depth in characters we were privy to more superfluous actions and scenes and just pages of why did this even need to happen. And I know what the author was trying to convey, so I kept on truckin' through the pages. But some scenes we skipped POV so many times I felt like a ghost oddly going through a room and possessing its inhabitants at random every 5 seconds. And then sometimes a scene would end and then a new chapter would begin but going back in time to tell their POV of the recent happenings... *sigh* It grew a bit wearisome.
description

One of my main qualms was with the boys of Orion's order. First, men do not describe themselves that way unless they are on that same team if you know what I mean. Second, the banter. Oy, the banter. I think the author needs to have some experience in just observing males in their natural habitat and figuring out how to accurately write out those scenes. Half the time someone says something inane and then there's chuckling and I'm so confused at what is so damn funny. Like I was beginning to want to punch someone because it happened SO MUCH.

In the end, once you filter through all the 600 plus pages, there is a good story to be told here. I think that the author would really, really benefit from a good editor to help her narrow down her message and storyline.

Here is a book the blends Twilight and 50 shades for one hot, steamy, enticing, can’t put down read! I am an avid reader of fantasy/thriller novels and this one caught my eye. The Specians world draws you in and makes you wish you could cross the invisible barrier yourself!

This book is a breath a fresh air for fantasy fanatics. I remember reading Twilight getting blue balls every other second, sorry if that’s too much don’t read the next sentence. This books allows you to get those rocks off and completes the ultimate shifter fantasy!! My goodness, you WILL get HOT and BOTHERED!

This is a whole new world to get to know and dive into. You can tell this author is laying the groundwork for an epic series in the making. The author invites you to meet the main pack of intense alpha men. I can tell as this series goes on these characters are going to grab your heart strings. Secretly obsessed with Nico, shhhhh.

The main character is relatable, especially with her inner dialogue about the events that take place. Don’t want to give anything away, but her you can tell her back story has a lot to offer and can see this building in multiple books!!

Do not miss out on an eventual Netflix/Hulu/HBO series book in making!! If only I was born in the shifter world, ugh!

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

Let me start with the good. The barebones of this book, the storyline, the characters, they were good. The main characters, and the side characters were pretty likeable. Caly was funny, blake was one of those men who could make it onto the “book boyfriend list”. Rhlyand and Rhyker were hilarious. Overall, every character had a personality, and they were all interesting. The story read like a supernatural/ paranormal mystery, and a romance wrapped up into one. I couldnt wait to see where the characters ended up.

However, I really feel like alot of the pages in this book had nothing to do with this story. I skimmed alot of it. I skimmed, and skipped over alot of the parts of the descriptions. It was overly descriptive to me. I don’t need to know what each character is wearinng every time they enter a room. Unless it has to do with the story, i feel like it is just too much. I would have liked to see Caly and Blake’s relationship evolve more. It seemed like 90% of their relationship was sex. And alot of the sex scenes almost seemed like a copy and paste, using the same descriptive words over and over.

I would have also liked the see the writer include some scenarios. Such as how the lingerie surprise went down. Or how the gift she gave her friend went over, instead of just being told it was appreciated, and that she liked it. I wanted to see the interaction.

Overall, a good book, but alot of skipped pages or paragraphs for me.

I’m going to do this review differently than I usually do. There were some really great moments in this book, but there were some things I really struggled to get through.

I loved the world that was built in this book. The idea of species behind a barrier that humans know nothing about is great. The different species and their powers were also really cool. Beyond the usual shifters and vampires there were elementals, travelers and more.

The story of a killer that a group of species are trying to catch was good. There was enough suspense and the kidnapping had me on the edge of my seat. I also enjoyed the characters. Seeing Caly grow into her powers and into love with Blake was sweet. The secondary characters were funny and I’m interested in their future stories.

I’ll admit I struggled to get through the first 10 (of 52) chapters. The descriptions were awkward and over done. I never got into the story because descriptions of people and things were just too much. There was a lot of repetition in this book that made it move slow. I know some of that was world building, but it didn’t add to the story. In fact, it often drew me out of the story. There were times the author reexplained something in multiple chapters and it wasn’t needed.

After those first few chapters I got more invested in the story. The descriptions were less and the story moved along more.

I’d read the next book from this author because I did like the characters a lot.

Calypso's Heart was out of this world. The scenery was amazing I was sucked right into book from the very first page. I cannot wait for the next book, Rhyker's Key to come out.
