Eventually Evie

Rate this book
How are you supposed to get your life back on track when the Universe won’t stop messing with you?

After a series of personal and professional setbacks, interior designer Evie Glass has lost faith in herself and the world. The last thing she needs is her loud, boisterous family poking their noses in her business, so that’s why she avoids opening up about anything—especially her love life—during their weekly dinners. Thankfully, her bestie and next-door neighbor, Matilda, always has her back.

When Evie is asked to cat-sit Matilda’s beloved rescue, she’s not thrilled at the prospect. One well-meaning mistake later and a distraught Evie is rushing her furry charge to the ER where she meets and is instantly smitten with Fletcher West, a charming veterinarian who seems to return her interest. That is until they both realize they’ve met before—ten years ago when he was dating her temperamental cousin. Fletch’s break-up with Bee put him at the top of her family’s hit list and makes him the last person Evie should be dating.

In addition to navigating a secret romance with Fletch, Evie must also deal with a demanding new job, an eccentric client from her former life, and an ex who’s suddenly blowing up her phone. She convinces herself she’s got it all under control, but what is Evie going to do when things start falling apart and she learns she’s not the only one keeping secrets?

One thing’s for sure…
Eventually Evie’s got to take a chance—on love, on life, and on herself.

Author's Note: The character of Evie Glass first appears in Messing with Matilda, but Eventually Evie can be read as a standalone.

I have a new favorite Cat Lavoie book! Eventually Evie is RomCom at its best with snappy dialogue and great characterizations that will keep you turning pages even though you never want the story to end.

Having lost her interior design business along with the will to date, heroine Evie Glass is at a low point in her life. While her new job doing virtual customer service for a delivery company provides some of the funniest moments in the book, it depresses Evie because she misses being able to do what she loves. Her only creative outlet is a client from her design days who calls upon Evie from time to time to bring her bizarre visions to life (hilarious for the reader, torturous for our poor heroine!). When her cousin Bee announces she’s getting married, Evie wonders when it will be her turn to find her forever someone.

Enter Dr. Fletcher West, the gorgeous, good-humored vet who’s there for Evie after she has a middle-of-the-night mishap with a friend’s pet (oops!). Sparks fly between them, but they soon realize they’ve met before and a romantic relationship is out of the question . . . or is it? The road to love is filled with a lot of potholes for these two and I wasn’t sure how or if they could make it work.

The ending of this book is absolute perfection as it mixes humor, pathos, and swoon-inducing romance. I may or may not (okay, I totally did) cry over the happy ending which involves a feline character who stole my heart. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book! I guarantee you will fall in love with this charming story.

I would firstly like to give a big thank you to the wonderful Xpresso Book Tours, for very kindly forwarding me a copy of this book, in return for an honest review.
Although I have not read anything else from this author before, I really enjoyed this romantic story. Although it is part of a series it can easily be read as a stand alone, which is what I did.
Interior Designer Evie Glass ha lost faith in herself and the last thing that she needs is her loud family posing their unwanted noses into her business. Then she meets Fletcher, who turns out to be the last man she should be dating.
I really enjoyed Evie’s secret romance and found myself wanting to keep reading more and more so that I could find out how everything turns out!
Loved it!!

Once Fate turns its back on you, things keep piling up to make your life miserable, as Evie Glass is discovering. Her interior design business failed and dating no longer seems like a good idea. He has lost faith in herself and the world around her. So having her family get into her personal business is not acceptable. If it were not for her best friend, Matilda, who lives next door, she doesn’t know how she would keep going.

Matilda asks Evie to cat-sit for her. And when there is an unintentional disaster, Evie has to rush the cat to the ER where she meets Dr. Fletcher West, a charming veterinarian who also appears to be interested in Evie. When they both realize why the other seems familiar, they know they should not bother dating. Ten years ago he had dated Evie’s cousin, Bee, and the fallout from their break-up alienated the whole family. Will she take the chance of pursuing a “secret romance” under her family’s snoopy noses? Or will she give up on love completely?

This is a fun book because it really does seem that life heaps troubles on her without end. She has to deal with various crazies from her past while trying to stabilize her future! Can she handle it? Is she finally going to catch a break somewhere?

Chick Lit Purr-fection

What a great book. It had everything I needed to make it a new favorite. Fun and witty dialogue, quirky characters, family drama, a love interest and of course cats.

Evie Glass has been struggling lately with her profession and love life. But when her best friend asks her to pet-sit her cat, Messi, and Messi ends up sick and needing emergency veterinary care, Evie finds herself crushing on the hot vet. The only problem is, this hot vet just happens to be her cousin’s ex, Fletcher West, who Evie’s entire family hates.

I couldn’t put this book down. From the beginning to the very end, I enjoyed every bit of it. The author has a way of bringing the characters to life and adding a great sense of humor to them and making the story one that I won’t forget any time soon. I didn’t want this book to end. I will definitely be picking up more of her books in the future.

Between nosy family members, a client from her former career with outrageous requests, an ex that won't leave her alone, and on top of all of that her best friend's cat, who she is watching needs a trip to the local vet, Evie is feeling very depressed. Evie and the vet are attracted to each other, that in itself wouldn't be a bad thing, but Fletcher has had a run in with Evie's family before and it didn't end to well. What does Evie do? How does she get her life back on track? Read the book to find out. Very well written with lots of laughs.

I really enjoyed this book. It has a loveable, nerdy get and a couch potato , down on her luck, sort of interior designer/customer service representative. Their big problem is a family issues on her side. I enjoyed the characters, scenery and the banter. The story has hot moments but no details and is very pg. I've been a huge fan of Cat Lavoie's since her debut, Breaking the Rules. She's one of those authors I wish more people knew about. Her books feature relatable heroines I would absolutely be friends with, sexy and sweet heroes, hilarious banter and internal dialogue, and romantic grand gestures. Eventually Evie was no exception. Check out one (or all) of her books. You won't regret it!

What a book! From the moment I started reading I was in, with the characters making me smile almost straight away. The book is about Evie, who has basically given up on her dreams and is just going with the flow in a job that was bang on for comedy for me. Add family gatherings that were warm and chaotic, vibrant and vivid, and a cousin who's planning a wedding and I was hooked! The cats in this book also helped create my dream book, as did the settings- including an animal centre I was thrilled for her to visit. Bang on comedy that actually made me laugh out loud, gorgeous romance, fantastic settings and spot-on characters- this is a book I've been recommending about the place! Warmth, romance, comedy and cats. What more could you want? Gush over. (Go read!)

A pleasant, easy read

Evie is pretty relatable with her attempts at normal life, but her standards are all over the place! She's trying to hold herself together when threads are fraying everywhere, but it's all done with a good dose of humour.
This was a new author for me and I'll happily read more as this left me with a smile on my face. It's funny and not overly steamy - plus it has a hot vet, animals (mostly cats) and a loud Italian family, what else do you need?!

Originally reviewed at Books Etc.

Cat Lavoie has been a rom com go to for several years now. Her latest, Eventually Evie, was released earlier this year and was so much fun to read. She creates characters you can't help but root for and a story that will keep you entertained throughout.

It's typical of rom coms to have a moment (or more) when you find yourself yelling, "JUST SPEAK TO EACH OTHER" to the characters. In the case, it wasn't just the romantic couple who weren't communicating. It drove me bananas that Evie just wouldn't speak to her cousin. It's always easy to judge when you're not in the situation yourself but it was easy for me to see that something just didn't add up with Bee and Fletch's break up. That said. when I did learn the full story? It actually didn't really help things too much. Perhaps because I felt Fletch was acting like a total idiot. I was pretty bummed, actually, because I was liking him (though not loving him) as a hero.

Evie is the type of heroine who doesn't usually get to be the heroine. She's usually the best friend who doesn't get to the be star of the show. In fact, she was the friend in one of Lavoie's earlier novels, Messing with Matilda. Her life is an absolute mess but you just know that she's such a great person and you desperately hope she'll figure out her Happily Ever After by the end of the novel. I admit, I think I was more into Evie figuring out her career goals than I was with a romantic HEA. Given it's a rom com, she does meet her goals and I definitely fist pumped as things came together at the end.

Cat Lavoie is a talented writer and the story flows really well. There are scenes that will make you laugh and there are others that will tug at your heartstrings. Eventually Evie is full of characters (human and feline) that will keep you entertained through the entire novel. It will leave you feeling all the warm and fuzzies and wanting another Lavoie novel to read.

What a Great Book

I’m a fan of Cat Lavoie from her very first novel, and this one, her latest, is her best book yet. I fell for Evie right away and loved cheering her on. Lavoie has a real gift for drawing out quirky, lovable characters.
